dies de dansa
It is amazing how fast we have taken to the streets of Barcelona. Only three days and we were venturing out of Gracia to our first “Meet Up” event – a dance festival. It was an amazing, very well organized, outside free public event with about a thousand spectators (yup it is scary to think that the entire Phoenix dance scene, dancers, spectators, and family could have been swallowed up by this crowd). The show was funded by the Department de Cultura (local government) and the concept was modern dance that celebrated the use of the urban landscape that the company was given to perform in. Because of this, the show moved around a large square depending on what space was chosen. The dance pieces ranged from performance art to pedestrian to structured improv to full concept pieces. I was very happy to imagine that many of the pieces in Dulce’s last concert would have fit in well. Actually what would have fit for certain is my friend Lili’s piece she did in a parking lot during a thunder storm. Lili’s video
I hope this inspires my friends Candy and Danna to dream big and start planning dance pieces for next year’s festival!
